Coleman sleeping bags are a good choice for anybody...

Coleman sleeping bags are one area that I am particularly impressed with when it comes to coleman products. I have one now that I have been using for several years and I must say it has treated me very well indeed.

I'm a fellow that enjoys to camp at places and times that there is nobody around and often that means camping in the earlier part of the spring before the bugs come out, or later in the fall when the bugs are gone. Depending where you camp, blackflies and mosquitos can be a real nuisance and they're best avoided by camping at these times of the year.

Naturally with the cooler seasons come nights and evenings that can be downright cold and if you and your camping buddies haven't chosen the right bags with an adequate temperature ratings then you're on the road to being very uncomfortable.

For most people, cost is the biggest factor to consider when buying sleeping bags, and rightly so, I've seen bags at outfitters that cost almost $1000! Even I would not spend that kind of money on that type of equipment and you certainly don't need to. At an outfitter even a cheap sleeping bag may cost several hundred dollars, depending where you go and that my friends is the single biggest thing that makes Coleman bags so attractive.

Like any other bag they will come rated to be used at a certain temperature range and you will pay more for a bag that offers more cold weather protection. But on the whole they are excellent value for the money and will give you many years of good service if treated properly. I actually think they seem more durable than many of the more expensive bags available today.

The one that I use is a "mummy bag" and I opted to go with it because it was on sale, it packs up smaller, is good for fairly cold weather, and has all the features of a good bag. It has a baffle tube down the zipper to keep cool wind from coming in and I can cinch it up around my shoulders using the draw-string and barrel-lock that is part of the bag. "Mummy bag" sleeping bags are popular because they have a hood that can be tightened up around your head and ears, leaving only your face exposed and helping to keep you warmer throught the night.

"Barrel bags" are the other type that are commonly seen and the type that most people own. They don't usually have any hood or anything and are often larger when packed but the upside to them is that they offer more "sprawl room". I don't prefer this type of bag simply because of the packing size and weight but for most people they're likely more than adequate.

Remember though, sleeping bags are only going to protect you from the cold that is in the air. They will not prevent you from feeling the cold that is in the ground and so are best used with some sort of air mattress to help you feel really comfortable.
