Hiking and Camping Equipment - What should you buy?
So, just what is so special about hiking and camping equipment in this day and age? Well, it’s quite simple really. Almost every item you can buy for camping these days has been precisely manufactured with the camper and hiker in mind. Camping gear these days is smaller, more efficient, longer lasting, more water-proof, more durable, lighter, warmer...... The list goes on and on.
It really doesn’t matter too much in my opinion which camping equipment manufacturer a person chooses. I generally don’t have “favourites” in any camping equipment niche. I pretty much find that most equipment from most reputable manufacturers is quite comparable from one company to the next and often their prices are fairly consistent to so It all boils down to your personal needs. That being said however, there can be different levels of quality in camping and hiking equipment.
Coleman equipment and Woods camping equipment is different than some of the gear offered by other companies. I own some Woods and Coleman gear myself. I bought the stuff with the intention of trying it and have come to the conclusion that while the gear offered by both companies is quite good and well thought out as far as its’ usability goes, it tends to be physically larger and generally a little less expensive to buy. Due to the physical size of their gear being larger I have to think that it’s really intended for use by families that want to get away for a camping experience together and people who are maybe car camping or even camping out of a trailer. I lke the items offered by either of these companies and when I’m camping with my kids it’s the equipment I prefer to use. If you’re new to the camping experience then my recommendation is to purchase gear by either of these two companies as it not only makes excellent beginner camping equipment, but it will last you for years to come.
Other camping and hiking equipment is built with the serious back country camper or hiker in mind. MSR camping equipment and Kelty camping equipment are a couple of these companies. Their gear is small and light weight, easy to pack, easy to carry, easy to care for, and it will last a very long time if properly taken care of.
If you're new to camping and want to do it on a cheaper budget then you could look at Woods Camping Equipment to get your first trip started on more of a budget.
