Car camping is the easiest for most folks...

What is car camping then? Well it's nothing more than than throwing all of your camping gear into your car and heading out to your favorite camping ground.

There are advantages to car camping that you don't get when you're hiking and camping or canoe tripping.

First of all you can pack more stuff into your car than you can in your average backpack so you can bring more stuff with you or at least stuff that's bigger. By bigger I mean things like coolers and air pumps for air mattresses and stuff like that. This is what many people like about it. For many it's nice to be able to bring the creature comforts of home to the great outdoors. When your more comfortable you are likely to enjoy your camping trip more than if you don't bring the right stuff with you.

The advantage to be able to bring camping gear that is generally bigger is that "general purpose" camping gear is less expensive to buy. two men at start of portage By "bigger" camping gear I'm generally referring to much of the Coleman camping gear and woods camping equipment. It does tend to be larger than the gear I like to pack when I'm paddling but I too own Coleman stoves and other gear, specifically for the purpose of car camping. It truly tends to make camping more like home when you can have a two burner stove and can run a couple of pots of food at the same time.

Another plus about car camping, especially for inexperienced campers is that is that your car is nearby to either keep you dry or warm or both if you need it. It does take a bit of experience to be able to know what works best for you to stay dry and warm in the areas you like to camp in and so it's nice to know that the car is nearby if you decide you're uncomfortable for any reason.

Last but not least it's worthwhile to note that even the most organized of people forget things from time to time. When you have a car with you it's not too much of a bother to jump in the car to go pick up you bug spray or marshmallows for the kids or whatever it is that you may have forgotten.

In general camping from your car is usually the best choice for first time campers, families with young children and people that want to experience a good time camping but don't wish to fork out all kinds of money on ultralight camping equipment to go on one trip and then maybe wait a year to go again. Once you been out a few times you, like many people may opt to buy lighter equipment and a backpack and try the back country camping experience.

I like both types of camping but for different reasons. Back country camping truly lets me escape the hustle and bustle but car camping lets me share the camping experience with my kids more easily.
