A camping trailer can be a home on wheels...

A camping trailer can be a very comfortable way to camp and see the country. They come in a very wide variety of sizes and costs so there's something available for practically everyone. Can't afford something new? Maybe a used camping trailer may suit you better. It's often possible to find extremely good deals when buying privately.

Now I'll admit that when it comes to camping, there's nothing I like more than the tent experience. It's condusive to activities like hiking, canoing and kayaking. All of these "extra" activities are incorporated right into the trip you've planned and they're all good for your body too. The experience of "roughing it" is very desirable for me.

However, as much as I enjoy all of those activities, I enjoy other things too like rock climbing and white water kayaking. Both of these activities require a fair amount of gear and it's just not possible to bring it when I'm in the back country.

As I write this page it's March 2007, and I have not yet bought a trailer although I have been shopping online for information about them and I recommend that you do the same before you buy one. There are lots of them available out there and you want to be sure you're buying the right one for your needs.

For me a camping trailer needs to have certain things to be perfect. First of all I don't wish to buy a new vehicle just for pulling it so something on the compact side is preferred. This obviously brings into mind the pop up variety. I agree but I prefer hard sides and I would like to have a washroom in it as well. Ideally it would sleep at least four people and have room to put my boats in it while being towed or at least have a means of lashing them to the top. There are hard sided pop ups available and I think that when I commit to buying one I will go that route. being of less height while in tow offers less wind resistance and better mileage than a full on hard sided trailer.

You obviously need to assess what you and your family need in a trailer before you buy one, i.e. will you require your own toilet/shower, can you bring your bicyles along, is it cost effective for you to tow it? There's lots to consider so be sure you think of everything before you lay out the cash, you don't want to find later that you could have made a better choice.
