Try sleeping in a camping hammock...

The camping hammock could be the best choice for backpackers and hikers. There are obviously different types of hammocks available but here I'll concentrate on the best ultralight gear.

These hammocks are constructed of reinforced lightweight materials, similar to what your tent may be or even backpack may be made of. They're very light and packable and have another benefit for people wanting to discover the ultralight camping experience. That is, they actually eliminate the need to pack a tent and sleeping pad in addition to your sleeping pad.

You would see this type of hammock being used by people that run in those eco-challenge races. Because of their size they're the perfect choice for these racers. They're light, they keep the camper off the ground, they're comfortable and they offer shelter from the rain should the weather become inclimate.

One thing about this kind of hammock is that it is meant for the solo camper, which is why it tends to be used by racers. If you're camping with a friend or a group then you may be just as far ahead to bring a tent because the you would not be saving space and weight if you have to bring more than one hamock.

Also you need to be sure that the area you're camping in will be adequate in terms of having a place to tie your hammock so you can sleep in it for the night.
