The best backpacking stove for you...What’s the best backpacking stove for you? If you’ve read anything else on my site then you already know I like them small and easy to carry. Some of these big green multi burner stoves you see from companies like Coleman may be really good for you family camping trip, but when it comes to backpacking they’re simply not the best option and you need to look at using something else. When it comes to this kind of camping, every gram counts and you want to keep your pack as light as reasonably possible. You have to carry this thing around for days after all. I would have to say that my top choice for "best backpacking stove that I would take in the woods with me would have to be something along the lines of the Primus Classic Trail stove. These things are just great. They’re small enough that you could fit one into the front pocket of your hiking pants, but at the same time they’re big enough to be able to boil a couple of litres of water in just about two minutes. This type of stove use the LPG type gas which comes in a pressurized canister and are generally good for using as a three season type of stove. My understanding is that they just don’t work that well when using them in the winter time or in extremely cold climates. One thing that’s really,really, important people, is that when you take this type of stove with you into the woods, you need to be sure to bring the fuel cans back out with you again when you’re finished your trip and dispose of them properly. They’re not a big deal to get rid of and many outfitters will take back the empty canisters so be sure to help keep our forests clean.
Others may consider a liquid fuel stove as a contender for the best packpacking stove. I have mixed feelings towards that opinion as they take up essentially the same amount of room as an LPG stove. One advantage they most certainly do have is that the fuel canisters are re-usable so they’re less of a burden on the environment overall, which should matter to people like us that like to explore what nature has to offer. So these above are two stoves that I would recommend to anybody that is looking own the best backpacking stove they can buy for the least money. You'll notice that in both cases they're at the cheaper end of the scale for such items.
